Inspiring news from Kenya as a physics teacher turns old laptop batteries headed for the tip into battery packs that power electric scooters!

Say hello to Paul Waweru, who wanted an electric bike because fuel is so expensive and most African cities are choked up with pollution. Nobody in Kenya sold them, so he had to import one and it soon fell apart, so Paul decided to invent a better one. Old laptop batteries cost next to nothing, so he bought a bunch of them, turned them into a battery pack and replaced the engine of a petrol scooter with an electric motor that can run for 66 miles and fully charge in just 45 minutes and at half the cost of a tank of petrol. His start-up, Ecomobilus, is now doing great because his bikes require almost no maintenance, one minor service every two years, and are so cheap to run.
