The Last of Us actor Pedro Pascal has become the latest star to sign up for Ethan Coen’s new film, Drive-Away Dolls.

Coen is acclaimed for making movies with his brother, Joel, including Fargo, No Country For Old Men and Hail, Caesar!, but this will mark the first time that the filmmaker directs a movie solo.

Written by Ethan Coen and his wife Tricia Cooke, the narrative will focus on Jamie - a free spirit who has just broken up with her girlfriend - and her pal Marian, who desperately needs to loosen up. Looking for a fresh start, the two head off on an impromptu road trip to Tallahassee, but things quickly go awry when they cross paths with a group of inept criminals along the way.

Along with The Mandalorian star Pascal, the comedy caper will also feature a whole bunch of other notable names, including Matt Damon, Maid’s Margaret Qualley, and Beanie Feldstein from Booksmart and How to Build a Girl. Geraldine Viswanathan, Colman Domingo and Bill Camp are also in the cast.

Joel and Ethan Coen last directed together in 2018, when they collaborated on The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. They previously won four Academy Awards together, before Joel released his first film as a solo director, The Tragedy of Macbeth, a couple of years ago.

Pedro Pascal might be one of the busiest and sought-after actors in Hollywood at the moment, but he recently revealed that he came close to giving up acting at the start of his career. Speaking about countless rejections after auditions back in the day, the Game of Thrones and Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent star told Esquire: “I died so many deaths.”

““My vision of it was that if I didn’t have some major exposure by the time I was 29 years old, it was over.”

The actor, of course, stuck with it, and this year he finds himself in two of the biggest shows around, in The Mandalorian and The Last of Us. The co-creator of the latter recently gave an update to fans on the show's future. Read more here.

Drive-Away Dolls is set to land in cinemas on 22nd September.
