Star Wars legend Carrie Fisher is getting a posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, with the ceremony taking place on Star Wars Day.

Fisher played Princess Leia in the original three Star Wars movies, A New Hope (1977), The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Return of the Jedi (1983), and then reprised the role in The Force Awakens in 2015. The actor sadly died of a heart attack in 2016 at the age of 60. She appeared in the release of 2017’s The Last Jedi after her death, and archive footage was used for her appearance in The Rise of Skywalker in 2019.

Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd, will accept the award on her mother’s behalf on Hollywood Boulevard near the historic El Capitan Theater, on May 4th (as in, May the fourth be with you).

Ana Martinez, Producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, said in a press release: "Fans will be over the moon to know that their favourite movie princess, Carrie Fisher, will be honoured with her star on the iconic Hollywood Walk of Fame.

“Carrie will join her Star Wars co-stars and fellow Walk of Famers Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford on this historic sidewalk. I am happy to add that her star is just a few feet away from the star of Mark Hamill and across the street from the star of her legendary mother Debbie Reynolds!"

Mark Hamill, who played Leia’s twin brother Luke Skywalker in the science-fiction franchise, took to Twitter to say: “Long overdue & so well-deserved. #CarrieOnForever❤️”

Fisher’s first movie role was in Shampoo in 1975 before she took on the iconic role of the space princess. She would later feature in films such as The Blues Brothers and When Harry Met Sally, as well as television shows such as 30 Rock and Catastrophe.

She also wrote the screenplay for Postcards from the Edge, based on her bestselling novel of the same name, and penned three other novels and two memoirs, one of which, Wishful Drinking, became a one-woman Broadway show.
