It's official, Freaky Friday 2 is in the works with original stars Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis expected to return.

Released in 2003, the original movie follows Tess (Curtis) and her teenage daughter Anna (Lohan), who constantly find themselves butting heads. To make matters worse, they mysteriously switch bodies one night and are forced to live each other’s lives.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the mother-daughter duo will be back for a new film with Elyse Hollander writing the script.

Rumours of a freaky Friday sequel have been circulating since February when Jamie Lee Curtis dropped some pretty obvious hints.

In an interview with Variety she revealed: “It’s going to happen.

“Without saying there’s anything officially happening, I’m looking at you in this moment and saying, ‘Of course it’s going to happen.’ It’s going to happen."

On top of that, Curtis uploaded a photo with co-star Lindsay Lohan and the caption: “It’s Friday. I’m just saying! Freaky fingers crossed!”

Lohan has also opened up about the potential for a sequel in a recent interview with the New York Times to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the original film.

She said: "Jamie and I are both open to that, so we're leaving it in the hands that be. We would only make something that people would absolutely adore."

The original film ended up earning $160 million worldwide at the box office, so the sequel has a lot to live up to.

At this stage, it's not clear what the plot would look like for the sequel but obviously, Tess and Anna are a lot older now so maybe we'll be seeing Curtis as a stylish grandmother?
