After four seasons, we finally know who has taken over from Waystar Royco founder and CEO, Logan Roy.

Warning, there are MASSIVE SPOILERS ahead if you haven’t seen all of season four of Succession.

The final instalment of the acclaimed dark comedy-drama aired yesterday (29th April), and there was a twist in the tale as fans learned who would climb to the top of the tree following the death of Logan Roy (Brian Cox), earlier this season.

The episode followed correct speculation from fans that Shiv (Sarah Snook) would be frozen out by Lukas Matsson (Alexander Skarsgård), should the deal go through.

However, rather than fan theories that Greg would be Matsson’s pick coming to fruition, we learned early in the finale that he in fact favoured Shiv’s hubby Tom (Matthew Macfadyen) as the new CEO.

This led Kendall (Jeremy Strong), Roman (Kieran Culkin) and Shiv to team up to try to block the deal, with Kendall persuading his siblings that he should be king of the castle.

However, when it came to the big vote, Shiv wobbled and, following a massive row between the three of them which got physical, voted the deal through. Roman seemed almost relieved, and Kendall went from fury to shellshock.

The deal went through, Tom became CEO and, despite almost scuppering the whole thing by leaking info to Ken (and some angry slapping between himself and Tom in a bathroom), “Judas” Greg secured himself a place at the table of the new team.

As the episode came to an end, Shiv sat in the back of a car with her husband, reluctantly holding his hand.

Fans took to Twitter to give their thoughts on the finale. One wrote: “The #Succession finale was perfect! One of the best shows I've ever watched!”

Another said: “Jesse Armstrong and co. have perfected giving audiences a sense of false hope with #Succession that I don’t think we’ll see again. You give us what’s possibly the last moments of the siblings in good terms, only to tear them apart and leave them in the mud. What a series finale!”

One fan wrote: “We just witnessed history. Not since Breaking Bad have I been this satisfied with a finale, so kudos to the masterful writing on this show. I am truly shook & absolutely astonished at how perfectly they ended this. Goodbye to one of the greatest shows ever made.”

Another viewer added: “I do think jeremy strong cemented kendall roy in television history tonight– there was never a moment his performance wasn’t full throttle perfect. even his quiet moments always held the intensity of every other actor on the screen all at once.”

Someone else enthused: “I’m lost for words. Season 4 of #Succession perfectly closes out one of the best shows ever made. Jesse Armstrong has meticulously and dramaturgically crafted some of the most well-written characters TV has, and will ever see. Jeremy Strong, Kieran Culkin, Sarah Snook, phenomenal.”

Another wrote: “You know what's the worst of all? the relationship between the roy siblings is totally broken, beyond repair and to see that happen after scenes that showed so much affection and intimacy between them... it was hard.”
