Jay Blades, fan-favourite star of The Repair Shop, is setting his sights across the Midlands on a new travel docu-series for Channel 5.

The TV star will front the new project, called The Midlands Through Time, which will see the furniture restorer explore the history of his West Midlands home.

Jay will travel through Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Coventry and beyond while taking a deep dive into the backstory of the area, from the industrial revolution and beyond.

Speaking in a statement (via Digital Spy), Jay explained: “Everyone thinks of Cadbury's chocolate, canals and Peaky Blinders when you say Birmingham and those things are true but also so much more.

"I've lived in the West Midlands since 2015. It's often overlooked but the reality is that without the humble West Midlands, the history of the UK, indeed the world would not have been the same.

"Filming has been fascinating, surprising and eye-opening in equal measures – I love Birmingham and the Black Country. Sharing this series with you will be an utter pleasure and a tribute to the place I am proud to call home."

Jay’s TV news comes after the BBC announced the daytime favourite will be joining forces with legendary actor Sir David Jason for a new series called The Touring Toolshed

Blades and the The Only Fools and Horses icon will hit the road to help members of the public, professional makers and enthusiasts take their crafts to the next level.

The heart-warming new series will see Sir David and Jay park up their toolshed at air shows, county fairs and vintage festivals all around the UK, where they will meet talented crafters, makers and tinkerers, people whose hobbies have taken over their lives, and indeed plenty of folk who could use some help!

In a statement, Sir David said: “It’s great to be back on the nation’s TV screens doing something totally different. I’ve played a lot of roles in my time but, to be myself, show off my creative passion and help the wonderful people we meet along the way resolve their mechanical masterpiece issues is very rewarding.”

He adding: “I’ve really enjoyed being on the road with Jay where we have built up a great friendship and had a lot of fun which I hope the viewers will enjoy watching when it airs”

Jay Blades: The Midlands Through Time will air on Channel 5 at a later date.
