Road Trip star Fred Sirieix has opened up about the real reason the beloved travel series won’t be coming back following the departure of Gino D’Acampo.

Fans were left bereft when the This Morning chef suddenly announced he would not be returning to the hit ITV series alongside Gordon Ramsay and First Dates star Fred.

Hugely popular with viewers, Gordon, Gino and Fred’s Road Trip has seen the trio travel across the world to Morocco, America and Greece.

Making the announcement in March, Gino took to Instagram to confirm he was bowing out of the show, telling fans: “Last week I decided not to film any more Gordon, Gino and Fred Road Trip, the reason is simple, nothing to do with Gordon and Fred – the friendship is very strong. It’s just because we can’t get the dates together.”

He added: “I rather the friendship than get into arguments with contracts, so I’ve decided not to do Gordon, Gino and Fred anymore because I want to be friends with the boys for many many years. So that’s it really, thank you for watching the show.”

Now, Fred has suggested to that the show will likely not continue on without the hilarious chef.

He explained: “I mean, the thing is, we couldn’t get the dates together, so we can’t, we can’t do the show anymore, unfortunately. So yeah, that’s all I can say. And I have to say there’s nothing else to say.”

When asked if the series could continue with him and Gordon, or with another famous face, Fred added that there is no Road Trip without their Italian counterpart.

He added: “I mean, the question is not that. I mean, we couldn’t get, like I said to you, we couldn’t wait to get the dates together. And so we’re not doing Gino, Gordon and Fred anymore, because we’re not gonna get the dates.”

Road Trip began back in 2017, and currently has three series out on ITV. In the last season, the trio dabbled in Greek food and were due to continue to Egypt, but it was short due to coronavirus restrictions.

The fan-favourite series was recommissioned back in 2020 for 18 more episodes and two Christmas specials featuring previously unaired footage across the series.

Meanwhile, Fred can next be seen on BBC reality series Ultimate Wedding Planner alongside Dragon’s Den star Sara Davies and Raj Somaiya.

The show will feature eight aspiring wedding planners battling it out to become Ultimate Wedding Planner, as six brave couples agree to let them take control of the biggest day of their lives.

Gordon, Gino & Fred: Road Trip is available on ITVX, while Ultimate Wedding Planner starts on Tuesday 8th August on BBC Two at 9pm.
