Legendary director Martin Scorsese has proven he’s in the know when it comes to the TikTok generation.

The Killers of the Flower Moon filmmaker, 80, took time out of making Hollywood blockbusters to film a new kind of project - a video with daughter Francesca in which he has to guess a number of different slang terms and what they mean.

Now, you might think a big-screen talent in his 80th year might not be wise to the latest lingo from the younger generations, but fans were surprised to see just how much Scorsese knows when it comes to phrases of today.

The first word was “tea”, which the director correctly guessed as: “You’re going to tell all you know.”

“Hits different” was another Scorsese managed to nail. Francesca’s example sentence to help was: “Watching a movie in 70mm hits different.”

“That’s an easy one,” he exclaimed, getting excited about talking about the beauty of film-making.

“You perceive it in a totally different way…you see it…it’s another perspective of the image and the effect the film has on the audience.”

Next up was “slept on”, which Scorsese used to bring back a long-running feud with critics about the reception his 1982 flick, King of Comedy, received.

“People hated it when it came out, it was the flop of the year, that’s what it was called,” he shared.

Another slang term Scorsese was surprisingly up on was “ate”, which Francesca described as “Lily Gladstone ate in Killers of the Flower Moon.”

“Consume the screen…she did really well,” the movie guru added.

Fans couldn’t get enough of Scorsese flexing his TikTok slang, with many taking to social media to share their elation at such a wholesome video.

One commented on X (better known as Twitter): “The fact that this video of Martin Scorsese with this voice filter now and forever will exist, tickles me.”

Another commented: “Watching Francesca Scorsese quiz Martin Scorsese about teen slang which inevitably leads to him ranting about how THE KING OF COMEDY was “slept on” is the only thing TikTok is good for.”

A third said: "Lily Gladstone ate in Killers Of The Flower Moon". This is so wholesome. The best campaign for the film we could've ever asked for. Francesca is doing God's work here."
