Dogger Bank, is not, as its name suggests, a financial institution for saucy people who might use car parks for something other than parking, it’s the location for the biggest offshore wind farm on planet earth, which will be finished in 2026 but started producing its first electricity last week.
The first of a planned lion's share of 300 turbines began turning in the North Sea wind just over 80 miles off the coast of Yorkshire, with each revolution of its giant blades generating enough clean energy to power the average UK home for two days.
The ambitious project will, when completed, produce 3.6 gigawatts of power – that’s enough for six million homes every year – and to put that in a CO2 saving context, that would be the equivalent of taking 1.5m cars off the road, say the Anglo Danish collaboration behind behind this record breaking renewables project.

If you were driving around rural Washington you might see a cluster of people by the roadside, or in the woods, bent over or squatting and with handfuls of weeds in their hands. If you did, you'd be looking at Weed Warriors.
An inspiring initiative where volunteers get together every week, hang up their superhero capes and swap them for gardening gloves and tackle the invasive weeds that are choking up their public spaces. There are 600 or so weeds and shrubs that cause damage to these ecosystems by choking the trees. The worst culprit is Polygonum perfoliatum, the so-called ‘mile-a’minute’ weed.
Those who refuse to take part and complain that their tax dollars should be paying for these cleanups are forgetting that people do it because they love it. It gets them out in nature, to meet kindred spirits at a time when more and more people are lonely and gives them a heart warming sense of fulfilment. I think Weed Warriors could catch on here? Maybe they exist already? If you’re doing something like this, get in touch with me because you’re a good news story!
