With 16 celebrities having signed up to take on the Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins, just three remained as the final episode concluded, with one coming out on top.

The trio of stars who made it to the end of the reality show were former health secretary Matt Hancock, singer Gareth Gates and TV personality Danielle Lloyd.

They were put through their paces by Chief Instructor Billy Billingham and his team of Directing Staff (DS), Foxy (Jason Fox), Rudy Reyes and Chris Oliver.

"Selection is the hardest thing these celebrities could choose to do in their lives. It's all about trust," Foxy said. "I look at the people that are stood in front of us, and I ask myself, in the darkest of dark places, would I have that person stood next to me?"

Whilst all three were praised by Billingham for their efforts in taking on “the most brutal course in the world”, when all was said and done, Gareth Gates was the only contestant to pass the course.

The singer-songwriter and actor, who finished runner-up to Will Young on Pop Idol back in 2002, was visibly emotional when he was announced as the winner. “Thank you, staff. Wow. Thank you,” he said, before being hugged by Hancock and Lloyd.

Speaking after his win, Gates described it as a “really crazy experience” and said: “I think winning, or passing, was amazing but being the only one really meant a lot to me. Realising that this is real for these DS, was really eye opening. We’re just here creating a TV show but this is what they've had to do for real.”

Talking more about the team of Directing Staff, he added: “I just had huge respect for them, that they have to go through this for real whilst protecting our country.”
