Brian Cox has revealed he would be open to returning to the screen as Logan Roy should a Succession movie be made.
Speaking with Variety at the Beverly Hills-based BAFTA Tea Party, the esteemed actor replied “We’ll see,” to a question about whether he’d make a film based on the hit TV show, before adding: “If it’s good enough and [series creator and writer] Jesse Armstrong wants to do it, I might do it.”
The actor gave no suggestions as to how he would star in the picture, considering how Succession’s fourth and final season documented Logan's death.
Instead, Cox appears to have continued the conversation with a focus on how he respected Armstrong’s decision to end the show when he did. “What I love about it and what I love about Jesse Armstrong is we don’t go past our sell-by date.
“A lot of American shows do go past their sell-by dates,” he suggested. “We’ve left people wanting. You always want to keep people wanting.”
On the subject of potential spin-offs, Cox also gave his opinion on his fellow-Succession star Kieran Culkin’s idea that Cousin Greg (Nicholas Braun) would be an interesting character for a new show. Variety reported the actor didn’t seem “keen”.
“I don’t think Nick Braun would want to do it either,” he said. “He’s going onto other things, which are really exciting for him.”
In fairness, Kieran Culkin was also unsure about the concept of spin-offs as a whole, only suggesting his Cousin Greg idea after telling Variety at the Golden Globes Awards that he feels “a spin-off is a horrible idea.”
Succession has seen much success this awards season, with its stars nominated (often against each other) for several Emmys, Golden Globes, and SAG Awards, and winning many of their categories.
At time of writing, the series’ latest wins came at the Primetime Emmys on 15th January 2024, where the show won:
Outstanding Drama Series
Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series (Mark Mylod for Connor’s Wedding)
Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series (Kieran Culkin for Church and State)
Outstanding Lead Actress in Drama Series (Sarah Snook for Tailgate Party)
Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series (Matthew Macfadyen for Tailgate Party)
and Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series (Jesse Armstrong for Connor’s Wedding).
Succession is available to watch now on Sky Atlantic and NOW.
