Dancing on Ice’s creative director has suggested the “real show” takes place behind-the-scenes in all its not broadcast backstage “tantrums”.
Show expert and former ice skater Dan Whiston spilled the beans about all the hidden rows and drama while speaking with New! Magazine, the Mirror reports.
“I’d love to have a camera backstage - that’s where the real show is” he revealed. “You wouldn’t believe what you are seeing - there are tantrums, tiaras and feathers everywhere, and that’s just the boys.”
The creative director continued by elaborating on what issues cause the most rows. “We’ve had to make rehearsal time fair this year because a lot [of] people have been saying ‘I want more time’ - but they all do. They’re all pushing for more time, and we have to make sure it’s the same otherwise it becomes unfair.
“I need to get a big hook to pull them off the ice,” Whiston joked, referring to how hard it is to stop the competitive celebrity contestants from trying to get the upper hand over their competition.
Only five couples remain in 2024’s edition of the much-loved celebrity talent show. They are Love Island star Amber Davies and her partner Simon Proulx-Sénécal; Olympian Greg Rutherford and his partner Vanessa James; DJ and presenter Adele Roberts and her partner Mark Hanretty; Made in Chelsea’s Miles Nazaire and his partner Vanessa Bauer; and former Corrie star Ryan Thomas and his partner Amani Fancy.
Last Sunday (25th February)’s show saw Eddie ‘the Eagle’ Edwards knocked out of the competition after seven weeks competing in the show. Eddie was a late replacement casting in the place of Gogglebox’s Stephen Lustig-Webb, who sadly had to pull out of the show due to injury.
Dancing on Ice’s semi-final will air on ITV1 and ITVX on Sunday, 3rd March, from 6.30pm.
