It may have been over seven years since we last checked in with Tom Hiddleston’s The Night Manager, but series two now on its way.

On 11th April 2024, it was finally confirmed by the BBC and Prime Video that a second and third series of the incredibly popular espionage show will be coming to TV screens in the near future after rumours had been circling about a sequel for over a year.

So without further ado, here’s everything we know so far about Jonathan Pine’s return to the screen.

Will Tom Hiddleston be in series two of The Night Manager?

Yes - Tom Hiddleston will lead the cast of series two and three of The Night Manager as night manager turned secret agent Jonathan Pine. The Marvel star will also be an executive producer on the two series, alongside (among others) his series one co-star Hugh Laurie.

Speaking about returning to the project in 2024, the actor said in a press statement: "The first series of The Night Manager was one of the most creatively fulfilling projects I have ever worked on. The depth, range and complexity of Jonathan Pine was, and remains, a thrilling prospect.

"I’m so looking forward to reuniting with [The Ink Factory production company co-CEOs] Simon and Stephen Cornwell, [writer] David Farr and [fellow executive producer] Stephen Garrett, and to working with Georgi Banks-Davies to tell the next chapter of our story. I can’t wait."

Who else is in the cast for The Night Manager series two?

In June 2024, it was confirmed that series one star Olivia Colman would be returning as Angela Burr for series two. Alistair Petrie, Douglas Hodge, Michael Nardone, and Noah Jupe will also be returning to their roles in the new series.

The show has also added Diego Calva (Babylon, Narcos: Mexico), Emmy Award nominee Camila Morrone (Daisy Jones & The Six), Indira Varma (Obsession, Obi-Wan Kenobi), Paul Chahidi (Wicked Little Letters, The Serpent Queen), and Hayley Squires (Adult Material, Beau Is Afraid) too its cast too.

When will The Night Manager series two air?

With production on The Night Manager series two and three only just confirmed, while it has been speculated that The Night Manager sequel might hit TV screens later this year, it is unlikely series two will arrive until the first half of 2025 at the earliest.

According to Deadline in February last year, production on The Night Manager series two was going to begin in late 2023. But this never came to be, making a 2024 release date very unlikely.

How can I watch The Night Manager series two?

The Night Manager series two and three will be available to watch on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK. International viewers will be able to tune via Prime Video to watch the show.

Will there be a series three of The Night Manager?

Yes, the BBC and Amazon Prime's announcement in April 2024 revealed The Night Manager would be returning for two more series, so a season two and three are on the way from writer David Farr and the show's whole creative team.

Is The Night Manager based on a true story?

No, The Night Manager series one was based on spy-thriller legend John le Carré’s 1993 book of the same name. The author even cameoed in the original show (see clip above)!

Without the late-great author having ever penned a sequel to that novel, future series of The Night Manager will be based on original plots that take the show’s characters on new thrilling adventures.

Speaking about taking on this responsibility in a statement, series writer David Farr said: "John le Carré's work has long been an inspiration to me and working closely with him on Season 1 was an honour and a pleasure. I did not tread lightly into extending The Night Manager beyond the original book, but an idea came to me a couple of years ago which felt truthful to that unique world of dark corners and shady identities.

“No one marries the suspense of espionage with a deep exploration of the human soul quite like le Carré. I hope that in some way we can pay homage to his uneasy genius in this new exploration."

The Night Manager series two and three will premiere on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK, and on Prime Video worldwide.
