Peaky Blinders’ creator Stephen Knight is set to work on a brand new series for Netflix.

Based around the Irish Guinness dynasty (famous for their eponymous dry stout), House of Guinness - the series’ working title - will tell “the epic story of one of Europe’s most eccentric and enduring dynasties”, the streaming service’s release statement teased.

The eight episode series' teaser synopsis continued: “Set in 19th-century Dublin and New York, the story will focus on the consequences of the death of Benjamin Guinness, the man responsible for the extraordinary success of the Guinness brewery.”

Commenting on the new show in a press statement, Knight said: "The Guinness dynasty is known the world over - wealth, poverty, power, influence, and great tragedy are all intertwined to create a rich tapestry of material to draw from. I’ve always been fascinated by their stories and am excited to bring the characters to life for the world to see.”

Knight’s next project was revealed by Netflix alongside several more exciting new UK and Irish programme announcements on Thursday, 14th March.

The streamer’s release news revealed a seventh series of Black Mirror was on the way, that Vigil and Gentlemen Jack star Suranne Jones will star in a new political drama called The Choice, and that The Tourist star Jamie Dornan will play the role of identical twins in an upcoming series called The Undertow.

Sadly for fans of Knight’s most famous Birmingham-set export, yesterday evening’s exciting release news did not include an update on the writer’s rumoured Peaky Blinders movie, which may or may not be coming to the platform sometime in the future.

In an interview with Radio Times magazine back in December 2023, Knight suggested the project was very much in the works.

“I’m just working on the final bits [of the script] at the moment,” he said. “I just sit down at the keyboard and start. It’s a bit like having a dream, for me. You sit there and all this stuff comes, and then you read it back and think, 'That’s pretty good – but where did it come from?'”

During his Oppenheimer and Oscars press tour, lead actor Cillian Murphy shared that he would be up for another turn as Tommy Shelby if offered the chance. “I’m open to the idea,” he told Barbie’s Margot Robbie during their Variety Actors on Actors interview. “I’ve always thought that if there’s more story to tell… we’ll see,” he concluded.

Who knows if the Irish actor - who was recently rumoured to be being eyed to be the next James Bond - would be interested in signing on to work with Knight on his new Irish upcoming drama.

House of Guinness will air on Netflix in the future.
