As he prepares to represent the UK in this year’s Eurovision, Olly Alexander has paid a visit to the Queen Vic in the latest episode of EastEnders.

The pop star and actor made a cameo appearance in last night’s episode (2nd May), before he takes part in the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest in Sweden next Saturday (11th May).

The It’s A Sin and Years & Years star featured in a scene where he popped into the local boozer, the Queen Vic, in Albert Square. The narrative sees him introduced as a mate of of Johnny Carter (played by Charlie Suff).

After Johnny tells locals that the pair’s friendship goes back “years and years,” (get it?), Olly - who is playing himself - says  “We met in a bar in Manchester. I must have been drunk because I thought he was funny.”

Saying that he is “gonna try” to win Eurovision, the singer tells punters that he’s in the area because he has “got rehearsals around the corner” before flying to Malmo.

“I’m loosening the vocal chords,” he explains.

Johnny describes Olly’s Eurovision track Dizzy as a “banger” and even offers to be a backing dancer, to which the pop star replies: “ I wanna win, babe. If the UK has to rely on your two-step, we’re all doomed!”

The 68th edition of Eurovision will take place at Malmo Arena, and the final will be preceded by the semi-finals on 7th and 9th May. There are 37 countries bidding to be crowned champion.

The UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain are already guaranteed a place in the final, as are last year’s winners, Sweden. All six will still perform in the semis, but they won’t be competing for votes.

This is the first time the “big five” countries and the host country will perform their songs in full during the semis.
