Andrew Garfield and Clarie Foy have been cast as leads in a new adaptation of Enid Blyton’s classic children’s series, The Magic Faraway Tree.

Garfield and Foy will star in the new feature film adaptation based on The Faraway Tree series, which is being penned by Paddington and Wonka writer Simon Farnaby.

Variety reports that filming for the new picture will begin in June, with more casting details to be revealed later in the year.

The Magic Faraway Tree follows the story of parents Polly (Foy) and Tim (Garfield) and their three children, Beth, Joe and Fran, a modern family who are made to move away from the city to the English countryside.

Following their relocation, the children discover a magical tree (the titular Magic Faraway Tree) and are soon transported to fantastical worlds while becoming acquainted with the tree’s eccentric residents, which include Moon-Face, Silky, Dame Washalot and The Saucepan Man.

Speaking about today (3rd May)’s casting news, Ghosts star Farnaby said: “To have two actors of the quality of Andrew Garfield and Claire Foy is a dream for any screenwriter. I have long admired their warmth, wit and lightness of touch.

“Plus they have the power to imbue their characters’ complexities that I don’t have the power to write… I mean, even Enid Blyton might be impressed we got Spider-Man and the Queen.”

The Magic Faraway Tree will be directed by Cuckoo’s Ben Gregor, who added: “Andrew and Claire are exquisite performers and I feel so spoiled to have them for this film. They are the cornerstones of our big hearted world and the perfect people to bring our lovely script to life.

The Magic Faraway Tree will be released in cinemas in the future.
