Hollywood star Michael B. Jordan has shared his excitement about working with A-Lister Will Smith in the upcoming I Am Legend sequel.

News of the second I Am Legend flick has been rumbling on since it was first announced in 2022, with Fresh Prince star Will confirming the movie's production on Instagram, but very little detail has been given since.

What we do know is that Creed star Jordan will be joining Smith in the post-apocalyptic wasteland, and he’s just gushed about working with someone who he “looked up to for a really long time.”

Giving an update on I Am Legend 2, Jordan described the film as being “in the works”, telling People Magazine: “We're still working on the script and getting that up to par. It doesn't have a release date or anything like that. I'm not sure exactly where we're going to be filming that one.”

Discussing working with one of his heroes, The Wire star added: “I'm really excited to get in front of the camera with [Will].

“Being somebody that I've looked up to for a really long time, to be able to work with Will is something I'm really looking forward to. I'm really excited."

Based on the 1954 post-apocalyptic horror novel by American writer Richard Matheson, the first I Am Legend film from 2007 sees Smith play Robert Neville, a US Army virologist who finds himself as seemingly the only surviving human in New York City after a man-made virus has wiped out most of mankind.

He works on finding a cure for the plague using his own immune blood, while defending himself against the hostile mutants.

Will and Michael will produce the follow-up, and Akiva Goldsman, who adapted the script for the original 2007 movie from Richard Matheson’s novel of the same name, will be returning to write the screenplay.

Akiva dished to Deadline in 2023 that I Am Legend 2 will rejoin the story “a few decades later.”

He explained: “I’m obsessed with The Last of Us, where we see the world just post-apocalypse but also after a 20-30-year lapse.

"You see how the earth reclaims the world, and there’s something beautiful in the question of, as man steps away from being the primary tenant, what happens?

"That will be especially visual in New York," he said.
