Two years on from its announcement, we finally have more details on the return of Wallace and Gromit in their next Christmas feature film.

The BBC have finally confirmed that Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl will be a full length feature film and will premiere this Christmas on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Not only that but the Aardman adventure will see the comeback of one of Wallace and Gromit’s most formidable foes - Feathers McGraw.

Vengeance Most Fowl will focus on Gromit’s growing concern as Wallace becomes over-dependent on his inventions - which proves justified when Wallace invents a ‘smart gnome’ that seems to develop an evil mind of its own.

As events begin to spiral out of control, it’s up to Gromit to put aside his qualms and battle sinister forces, or Wallace may never be able to invent again!

Fans last saw Feathers over 30 years ago in the 1993 short The Wrong Trousers, which saw the calculating penguin rent out a room at the duo’s house where he tried to use Wallace’s techno-trousers to steal the blue diamond. While rightfully behind bars ever since, it seems Feathers is back for revenge.

As previously reported, a new voice will take over from the legendary tones of Peter Sallis as Wallace. Ben Whitehead has worked with Aardman for a number of years, and even worked alongside the late Sallis for Wallace and Gromit projects.

New cast members include Peter Kay as Chief Inspector (formerly PC) Mackintosh, alongside Everybody’s Talking About Jamie star Lauren Patel, Inside No.9’s Reece Shearsmith with cameos from Motherland star Diane Morgan, Bridgerton’s Adjoa Andoh and Lenny Henry.

The last time Wallace and Gromit shared the big screen was in 2008’s A Matter of Loaf and Death, which was nominated for Best Animated Short at the Oscars.

Nick Park, the creator of Wallace and Gromit and the director of Vengeance Most Fowl, said in a statement: “I’d had the idea of a film about garden gnomes turning bad for more than a decade, but I could never work out what made them bad. It occurred to me that the single most asked question I get when I meet fans is, will the penguin Feathers McGraw, Wallace and Gromit’s original antagonist from The Wrong Trousers 30 years ago, ever return?

“We’ve had fun bringing him back in cameo capacities but now, three decades on, it felt like the right time. Then it hit me: What if Feathers was involved with these gnomes? We’re hoping that this film will appeal to fans of “Gnome Noir” everywhere and that people will be gratified when they see what Feathers has been up to since The Wrong Trousers.”

Co-director Merlin Crossingham added: “While we’d love to revive the enthusiasm across our existing fan base, we also want this film to reach people who have never come across Wallace and Gromit before. Hopefully Vengeance Most Fowl is full of everything people love about Wallace and Gromit while introducing new themes to their ongoing story.”

Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl will premiere on the BBC this Christmas. Wallace and Gromit’s previous adventures can be enjoyed on BBC iPlayer.
