They may be from Las Vegas, but The Killers got involved in England’s celebrations in a big way as the Three Lions made it to the Euro 2024 final.

The band were playing a massive show at London’s O2 Arena on Wednesday night (10th July), at the exact same time that England were battling the Netherlands in their crucial semi-final in Dortmund, Germany.

However, not wanting fans to miss out on the historic occasion, The Killers paused their show and put the final few minutes of the match on the big screens at the venue, with ITV’s commentary playing out as England led 2-1, having grabbed a dramatic injury-time goal.

When the final whistle blew and England’s place in Sunday’s final was confirmed, red and white streamers exploded into the ecstatic crowd from the stage and The Killers launched straight into their iconic hit, My Brightside.

What a way to celebrate!

The spine-tingling moment was captured by members of the crew and fans and shared on social media. Have a look at some clips here:

England’s victory was earned after Gareth’s Southgate’s men fell behind to an early Dutch goal. They equalised through Harry Kane converting a controversial penalty, before winning it at the death through a sublime Ollie Watkins finish.

The Three Lions will now take on Spain in the Final at 8pm BST on Sunday night (14th July), in Berlin. And The O2 will be back in footy mode then, as London Mayor Sadiq Khan has announced that the venue will host the capital’s largest screening of the final. The ballot for tickets opens 10am tomorrow (12th July) on the City Hall website

Across England’s pubs last night, two other songs were being belted out. As well as a neatly repurposed Bruce Springsteen classic in honour of Phil Foden, fans were uproariously singing Three Lions, England’s official Euro 96 song by The Lightning Seeds and David Baddiel and Frank Skinner.

It has long-since become the ultimate football anthem with its chorus of “Football’s coming home.”

Joining the Chris Evans Breakfast Show with webuyanycar last week, Frank and David discussed Three Lions, with the latter saying: “We thought, ‘We'll write a song that is authentically what it's like to be an England fan.’

"And that is not, ‘This time more than any other time,’ it's actually ‘We're probably gonna lose. But somehow or other, magically, we think this, we're gonna win, maybe, if we're lucky!’”

England have certainly ridden their luck at times in Germany, but if the players can manage one more win on Sunday night, then football will truly be coming home!

Come on England!
