According to Variety, 20th Century Studios is in the early stages of developing a movie based on this iconic show.

While plot details are being kept under wraps tighter than a high-stakes covert operation, fans are buzzing with excitement about the possibility of seeing their favourite characters back in action.

Whether the original leading star will reprise his role is still up in the air, but that hasn't stopped the internet from exploding with joy at the news.

One fan, @RickNoseNothin, took to X (formerly Twitter) to declare it the 'best day ever,' while @JeffRielley fondly remembered binging the show to the point of having dreams about it.

@PT_gallagher nostalgically recounted how it was 'appointment viewing' with friends, and @jmckinney2323 simply put it as 'one of the best TV shows of all time.'

Now, for the big reveal—drum roll, please—it's the action-packed thriller 24 that's making a comeback!

Yes, the iconic series starring Kiefer Sutherland as the relentless counter-terrorist agent Jack Bauer is heading to the big screen.

24, which ran for nine gripping seasons from 2001 to 2014, saw Bauer preventing fatal attacks across North America and the UK, each season covering 24 hours in real-time.

Last month, Brian Grazer, co-founder of 24's production company Imagine Entertainment, hinted at this blockbuster potential during an appearance on MSNBC’s Squawk Box.

"Imagine has always played in that zone where there is that high probability chance that it will be successful in movie theatres," Grazer said.

"It’s great for us, because we’ve built, over 30 years, over 100 different products and brands... or whether it’s 24, a movie that we’re going to do in a very interesting way with Disney and Fox."

Grazer noted that Hollywood is increasingly turning to well-established intellectual properties with high awareness.

In other words, classic hits from the late '90s and 2000s are hotter than ever, making them prime candidates for a revival.

Kiefer Sutherland himself has been open about his eagerness to return to the role that made him a household name.

In a 2022 interview with Metro.co.uk, Sutherland said he would 'jump at the opportunity' to play Bauer again.

"I’ve always said I love playing the character and I love the show. And if someone were to write something that I thought was really exciting, I would jump at the opportunity to do that," he said.

"If someone’s gonna write it, they’d better write it quick, otherwise Jack Bauer is gonna have a cane and a bad back and all kinds of other crap."

More recently, he added a tantalising tease, saying: "One of two things is going to have to happen in the show that they didn’t let us do in the last one. So we’ll see what happens if we get to go again."

Reflecting on his time on 24, Sutherland shared: "I love the character. And I love the show. And I love the people that I got to make it with. So there wasn’t a downside."

He added that the long-running series provided him with a semblance of normalcy.

"My daughter was 12 when I started 24. And I have a picture of her in a cap and gown from NYU University at the end of the show. So it was a long period of time. But I was home, right? I had the closest thing I’ve ever had to a regular job."

Throughout its run, 24 was nominated for a staggering 68 Emmy Awards, winning 20, including outstanding drama series and a lead actor award for Sutherland in 2006.

With such a legacy, the film adaptation of 24 promises to be nothing short of explosive.
