Freddie Flintoff’s Field of Dreams came to an end last night (3rd September) and fans have been calling for the sporting star to be awarded a ‘knighthood’ for his efforts with his young cricket team.

The TV star and former cricketer, who was airlifted to hospital following the near-fatal car crash in December 2022, made his big TV comeback in the second season of documentary.

Series two Field of Dreams saw Freddie focus on his very ambitious plan to take the teenage team he created in Preston to compete in India, one of the most revered cricketing nations in the world.

The four-part special followed the team as they trained hard to build confidence in their abilities both on and off the field.

Even though they were defeated in their final match, Freddie still shared his pride at the team making it to the end, and gave each player a special cap to remember their time together.

With his dedication to helping the lives of the teens from his hometown, plenty of fans have now called for Freddie to be recognised for his incredible efforts.

One viewer wrote on X during the series: “These boys are learning so much. I hope this amazing opportunity they've been given is the making of them. And give Freddie Flintoff a sainthood, never mind a knighthood! #fieldofdreams.”

Another commented: “Freddie Flintoff deserves a knighthood for what he is doing with that squad of lads in #Fieldofdreams absolute inspiration.”

A third wrote enthusiastically: “I'd suggest #FreddieFlintoff, #KyleHogg and BBC should be hugely congratulated for #FieldOfDreams.

“The opportunity given to these lads, trips abroad, the passion shown by Fred & Kyle & BBC backing obvs can't be replicated in every deprived area. It shows that if you give people focus, support, trust & responsibility, they can thrive and grow. Great programme and surely lessons can be learned by cricket and beyond.”

Field of Dreams also documented Freddie’s recovery following his terrifying car crash in 2022, which he described in the show as having changed his life “forever.”

The A League of Their Own star also bravely showed the extent of his facial injuries for the very first time, explaining: "I genuinely should not be here with what happened.

"It's going to be a long road back and I've only just started. I'm going to need help. I really am. I'm not the best at asking for it."

As described by Freddie, Field of Dreams series two almost never happened following his horrific crash, but luckily the cricketer not only survived his accident, but went on to complete the tour as promised.

Freddie Flintoff’s Field of Dreams on Tour is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
