Ant and Dec have joked winning NTAs for 23 years in a row is making awards shows a more “nerve wracking” experience for the pair.
Speaking joyfully with virginradio.co.uk and other press after their historic National Television Awards 2024 best presenter win, the duo spoke about how stressful their incredible winning streak is to maintain.
“You never get used to [winning],” Ant explained. “We’ve been winning now for 23 years, and we know one year it’s going to stop. Tonight could have been that night, so when they say your name, it’s just- it’s wonderful.”

Dec agreed, adding: “If anything, it’s just gotten more nerve wracking over the years, and my palms sweat and my heart beats and I’m as nervous now as I was the very first time we won it.”
The presenting pair, beloved for their work on I’m A Celebrity…, Limitless Win and Saturday Night Takeaway, shared that being voted by the general public as the winners of this award for 23 years in a row “feels nuts”.
“How do you describe it? Like, we just- we don’t get it,” Ant said, and Dec agreed: “Honestly, I said up there, it’s quite hard to put into words that people are still voting for us and choosing us as their winners now 23 years on. It’s just- It’s properly mind-blowing.”
The pair were also particularly emotional about how this year’s win comes after they chose to pause working on Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway for a time.
“It’s been a big year for us, to pause Take Away after 20 series was a big deal,” Ant shared. “We did [Britain's Got Talent], then we took a bit of time off, so this is kind of officially our first day back at work. And what a great way to start the new term!”
Mr Bates vs The Post Office was the big winner at last night (11th September)’s NTAs, taking home Best New Drama, Best Drama Performance (Toby Jones as Alan Bates), and the show’s previously announced Impact Award. TV favourites including Bridgerton, The Traitors, and Strictly Come Dancing all also won big in the public vote.
