Broken Social Scene are set to release a new album next year, according to the group’s co-founder Kevin Drew.

The band confirmed they had started recording their first album in six years earlier this year.

In an interview with George Stroumboulopoulos on The Strombo Show, he said they are aiming for a release in summer 2017.

Drew said: “I’m looking to get back on stage with my family and connect with the people."

He also said that the Paris attacks which took place last November reinforced the group's decision to reform.

“The whole reason we got back together was after the shootings in Paris. Everyone sort of got on the phone within the small tribe of us and said, ‘I want to play some shows'."
