The first handwritten draft for the iconic Elton John track 'Your Song' has recently sold for £180,000 at an auction.

The auction raised a total of £271,000 overall.

The lyrics to 'Your Song' were orinally written by Elton's long-term collaborator Bernie Taupin.

'Your Song' upon its release in 1970 it peaked at Number 7 in the UK Singles Chart and has since gone on to become a certified multi-platinum selling single.

Maxine Taupin who was married to Bermie Taupin between 1971-1976 has put a number of Bernie's lyrics up for sale at Bonhams Rock & Roll Memorabilia Sale in Los Angeles.

In a conversation with Rolling Stone, Maxine Taupin said: "I don’t really remember the moment. But some of them were framed on a wall in my home and other ones were in a bank vault, perfectly preserved.”

Lyrics for Elton John's 'Border Song' were also sold for a massive £24,000.

Surprisingly, handwritten drafts for ‘Candle In The Wind’, ‘Goodbye Yellow Brick Road’ and ‘Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting’ remained unsold in the auction.
