We all share a lot of our lives on social media, and Romesh Ranganathan is no exception.
He’s gone one step further and has written a book, and it comes out tomorrow.
On the Chris Evans Breakfast Show with Sky this morning, he said he’s worried he might have overshared: “You have a lot of these thoughts, ideas and foibles and you feel self conscious about various things."
He continued: "You keep that inside and you present a version of yourself, don't you? So when I was writing the book, I was very honest about my feelings about my shortcomings and my attitude towards parenting, how I feel about myself. You say all of those things, and then you put that in and think, wow, this is a really honest reflection of my genuine thoughts.”
He also stresses that he’s keen for his children to know the value of money growing up.
Romesh told Chris: “If my parents hadn't had the struggles that they had, I don't think I'd be doing what I'm doing now. My children are not having the same experience I did. I'm able to spend money going to a nice place or go on a nice holiday, then I think they're gonna have no appreciation of the value of this!"
He explains “I get paranoid about that. I want them to appreciate that. They go on a really nice holiday with this ranty man, who's constantly sort of shouting at them, how much did this ice cream cost? I am ruining this holiday….. Do you know how much his hotel costs? I mean, it's, I'm basically achieving neither of my goals. That's what's happening” he laughs.
It all boils down to not wanting to lose sight of what he has, says Romesh: "I've got imposter syndrome, as all of us do, and also the fear that this could all be taken away at any moment".
comes out tomorrow.
