If only our headteachers had been less Trunchbull and more like this lovely Canadian Vice-Principal who wrote a letter to the tooth fairy on behalf of a little boy.

Journalist Andrew Kurjata shared on social media: "A kid's tooth fell out at school and no one could find it, so his Vice-Principal @shandeemay1 wrote this letter to the tooth fairy."

The letter read: "Dear Tooth Fairy. Today one of Gavin’s tooth sic fell out when he was getting ready to eat lunch. Unfortunately it was lost in the classroom and despite heroic attempts of a fearless search team we were unable to recover it.

"As a trained Vice-Principal and hobby dentist I can verify there is definitely a gap in Gavin’s teeth that was not there this morning when he came in.

"Please accept this letter as verification of a lost tooth and provide the standard monetary exchange rate you normally use for a real tooth.

"If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at the address above. Sincerely, Shandee M. Whitehead.

"PS. I am still waiting for the money for my wisdom teeth in 2000. Please pay as soon as possible. I have bills to pay."

People have been commenting on the post which has at present racked up over 43,000 likes on Twitter.

The cute letter has captured the imagination of the social media masses. One user wrote: "Pretty sure my elementary school Vice-Principal would not have written a letter like that."

Another added: "This child will never forget this!"

One user commented: "This is the coolest letter that I have read."

The Vice-Principal wrote online: "In addition to contributing to a long-term plan for ST success, cultivating leadership in others, managing PPL, data, & processes, & improving school leadership... a VP has the duty of helping to create a positive school culture... one that saves the day!"
