British talent has been recognised in this year’s Emmy Award nominations

The nominations for 2021’s Emmy Awards are in, and British television is very well represented, with shows such as The Crown, Bridgerton, I May Destroy You and Mare of Easttown all getting nods.
Netflix’s The Crown has bagged a massive 24 Emmy nominations, with Olivia Colman, Emma Corrin, Josh O’Connor, Gillian Anderson, Helena Bonham Carter, Tobias Menzies and Emerald Fennell all up for awards. The show is also nominated for best drama series.
Meanwhile, another Netflix show, the oh-so steamy Bridgerton, is up for 12 awards, including best drama, while Rege-Jean Page is nominated in the best drama actor category.
Sky show Mare Of Easttown notched up several nominations, including for best limited series, Evan Peters for best supporting actor in a miniseries and, of course, the incredible Kate Winslet for best actress in a miniseries in the title role.
Kate will be up against Michaela Coel, whose performance in her brilliant I May Destroy You has seen her nominated in the best actress in a limited series category. Michaela is also up for writing and directing awards for her show.
Anya-Taylor Joy is nominated for her performance in Netflix’s chess drama The Queen’s Gambit, which picked up an impressive 18 nominations.
Other Brits in the mix for awards include Ewan McGregor for his role in Halston, and Paul Bettany for WandaVision. Meanwhile Juno Temple, Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt, Nick Mohammed and Jeremy Swift all got nods for football comedy Ted Lasso, which scored 20 nominations. Back of the net!
Away from the UK, Disney’s Star Wars spin-off The Mandalorian picked up 24 nominations, while their first Marvel show, WandaVision, has 23, including ones for its stars Elizabeth Olsen and Kathryn Hahn. Kayley Cuoco received her first Emmy nomination for best actress in the comedy category, for Sky show, The Flight Attendant.
Elsewhere, MJ Rodriguez became the first transgender actor to receive a nomination in in a major acting category. Rodriguez is up for an award in the lead actress in a drama series category for her performance in The Pose.
The 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards will take place on 19 September in Los Angeles. Here’s the list of nominations in the major categories.
