Get ready for a journey back to Middle-earth, because an epic Lord of the Rings series is coming to Amazon!
Filming, which has been taking place in - you've guessed it - New Zealand, wrapped yesterday, and Amazon has announced that the show will land on its platform in September 2022.
Whilst that does mean that we’ve got to wait over a year to watch the already eagerly-anticipated fantasy series, at least we’ve been given a sneak peak at what the show will look like, with the first still image being released.
In a Tweet which contains a beautiful first look at the series, Lord of The Rings on Prime said, “On September 2, 2022, a new journey begins.”
At this stage, not much is known about the multi-season television adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s tome. Indeed, its official title hasn’t even been announced yet, but the narrative is believed to take take place during the “Second Age”. If you’re not especially up to date on your Tolkien knowledge, the Second Age is thousands of years before the events that take place in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit stories.
In a statement, Jennifer Salke, Head of Amazon Studios, said, “I can’t express enough just how excited we all are to take our global audience on a new and epic journey through Middle-earth! Our talented producers, cast, creative, and production teams have worked tirelessly in New Zealand to bring this untold and awe-inspiring vision to life.”
Whilst we don’t know much about what happens in the series, we do know who we’ll see on screen. The cast will include Game of Thrones’ Robert Aramayo, Charles Edwards from The Crown, Saint Maud’s Morfydd Clark, and award winning British actor Sir Lenny Henry.
Other star names include Will Fletcher (The Girl Who Fell), and Amelie Child-Villiers (The Machine), as well as Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Owain Arthur, Maxim Baldry, Nazanin Boniadi, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Trystan Gravelle, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, Tyroe Muhafidin, Sophia Nomvete, Lloyd Owen, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Charlie Vickers, Leon Wadham, Benjamin Walker, Daniel Weyman, and Sara Zwangobani.
If you’re hoping to binge your way through the whole series once the show arrives on September 2nd 2022, then you’re out of luck, as new episodes will be dropping weekly after that.
