Not a lot of people know that they might be able to get hold of Sir Michael Caine’s specs for just £800, but it’s true!

The Oscar and Golden Globe-winner is having a sale, which will include some amazing film memorabilia.

Auctioneers have said that the star of classics such as 1966 romantic comedy Alfie and 1969’s The Italian Job, and his wife Shakira, are downsizing and therefore putting some of their treasured possessions up for auction.

Included in the sale will be items from across Sir Michael’s amazing career, including posters for Zulu and Alfie, which are expected to receive bids from between £500 and £2,000. Also up for grabs is a director’s chair from the 1971 movie Get Carter. A framed 1970 Tony Award page and medallion, signed by Julie Andrews, Mia Farrow, Barbra Streisand, James Stewart, Maggie Smith and of course  Sir Michael himself, is being sold too.

And the actor will be auctioning two pairs of his iconic specs, which are expected to pull in somewhere between £800 and £1,200 each. He is also making his Rolex watch available, but if you want to bid on this, you’d better have about £12,000 spare.

Sir Michael said: “It’s going to be quite a wrench to part with so many treasured parts of my life and career, but it’s the right time to be moving on. I hope these mementoes will give their new owners as much pleasure as they have given us.”

The couple are also putting some works of art up for auction, including an LS Lowry from 1920, entitled Peel Park, which may receive up to £18,000. Also being sold is Les Amoureux dans l’arbre by Marc Chagall, which is estimated to fetch between £30,000 and £50,000.

Meanwhile, proceeds from the sale of Lincoln Townley’s portrait of Sir Michael will go to the NSPCC. It is hoped that this will raise between £10,000 and £15,000.

Sir Peter Wanless, CEO of the NSPCC, said: “Sir Michael Caine is a former patron and long standing supporter of the NSPCC. We are touched and extremely grateful he has chosen to donate all the proceeds raised from the sale of this fantastic portrait of him to such an important cause."

All of these goodies will be sold at Bonhams in London, on March 2nd. So if you fancy getting hold of those specs, then stick the date in your diary!
