Eagle-eyed fans think Netflix is leaving breadcrumbs to help reveal when the latest series will air.

Back in November, the streaming service dropped the latest trailer for the highly-anticipated fourth series of the sci-fi drama, which showed Eleven settling into her new life in California, and updating pal Mike on what’s been happening via a written letter.

Whilst Eleven describes how much she likes school and insists she’s made lots of friends, the visuals actually show the opposite, and that things are not going at all well for her in her new school.

Then, as the trailer progresses, the action really ramps up. We see guns being fired, a car chase, helicopters hovering, Eleven being restrained by men in suits, and a massive explosion.

There’s a real blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment in the trailer that some very observant fans managed to clock onto. On the side of the Surfer Boy Pizza van, there's a phone number - 805-45-PIZZA.

According to CBR.com, when you dialled that number, it would say: “The phone number you just dialled is now active.”

If you called it again, this was where it started to get interesting, as fans claimed they dialled the number and heard the ‘happy birthday’ tune.

Fans on the forum site Reddit took a deep dive into what it could mean, and while some believe the tune could be a clue pointing back to the episode in series 3 called The Birthday, others feel it’s much more likely to have something to do with the episodes coming up.

One theorist wrote: “Could be related to the show’s anniversary. So s4 releases on July 15”.

Another Reddit user commented: “AND July 15th is a Friday. WHOA!” as Friday is the day most new releases drop on Netflix.

While very little is known about the upcoming series, Netflix did drop some titles for the upcoming episodes, which include The Massacre At Hawkins Lab, The Hellfire Club and Papa, all of which indicate that the new series will be just as dark and gritty as usual.

Stranger Things series 4 is due to arrive on Netflix later this year, with series one, two and three available to watch now.
