Kylie Minogue pays an emotional tribute to Neighbours and fans are all saying the same thing

“If the last shot of Neighbours was Charlene pulling up in a car that would be epic”.

Kylie Minogue says she will be “forever grateful” for the opportunity Neighbours gave her after news that the Australian soap will be axed in June after a 37-year run.

The show was one of the things that launched Minogue’s career after she joined the cast in 1986 to play Charlene Robinson.

Taking to Twitter, she paid an emotional tribute to the soap, writing: “I’ll be forever grateful for the experience & the friends I made on @neighbours.

“We had no idea how big the show would become and how passionately viewers would take it to heart.

“Pure love! I can still hear Madge calling…CHARLENE!!!!”

The soap also helped launched the career of Jason Donovan, who, of course, played Scott Robinson, Charlene’s love interest on the show. More recently, it’s also acted as a springboard for the likes of Margo Robbie, who is now a major award-winning actress.

Neighbours has generated a huge fan base over the years, and unsurprisingly, many took to Twitter to show their love for Kylie’s tribute.

One person wrote: “I remember watching @neighbours in the school tuck shop where there was a telly - I've been a lifelong @kylieminogue fan since. So many happy memories of the show.”

Another said: “I'd love to watch the glory days of neighbours again. Playing out on the street and someone would scream NEIGHBOURS and we'll all rush into our houses at 5.35pm to watch Scott, Charlene, Plain Jane Superbrain, Mike and the gang!”

However, the overwhelming reaction to Kylie’s tribute was fans calling for her return to the soap for one last episode before it ends.

One person said: “Please come back ONE LAST TIME @kylieminogue with @JDonOfficial. We need Scott & Charlene back for the FINALE please. 🙏❤️xx @kylieminogue”

Another wrote: “It would be amazing to see you and @JDonOfficial as Charlene and Scott making an appearance before Neighbours ends. You played such a massive part in making the show the success it is, and it would be so great to be able to relive that one last time. x

Others were calling for the pair to return for the final ever scene of the soap, with one user writing: “We need Charlene and Scott to be in the final episode. They get out of a car and Charlene looks to Scott and says ‘We’re Home’”.

Another agreed and said: “If the last shot of @neighbours was Charlene pulling up in a car that would be epic”.

It certainly would be!

Whatever happens, we’re sure the final episode will be the best send-off to Ramsey Street and its characters.
