Peaky Blinders director reveals he placed an Easter Egg in the latest episode

Peaky Blinders creators are known for placing clues throughout episodes that point to the fate of the Shelby family.

In season five, one of the motifs used was the Swan, which appears a number of times in the Garrison Tavern, at Tommy’s House and, of course, during the Swan Lake ballet performance.

It was later revealed the swan represented Grace, who was calling Tommy to be with her from the grave.

Now, eagle-eyed fans are watching the sixth and final season to see if they can spot anything similar.

Peaky Blinders director Anthony Byrne admitted they do plant easter eggs while filming and took to Instagram after yesterday’s episode to see if viewers had spotted the latest.

He wrote on his story: “There was a Peaky Easter Egg in tonight’s episode hidden in one of the shots for an eagle-eyed viewer to find.

“Did anyone spot it?”

The Easter egg came up in the scene when Ada is drinking in the Garrison alone before she is joined by Lizzie.

If you didn’t’ spot it, there was a red right hand on one of the bottles of gin which Ada grabs for a drink.

Of course, Red Right Hand by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds is the unofficial theme song of the series after becoming a staple opening to earlier episodes.

The motif of a red right hand comes from the 17th-century epic poem, Paradise Lost by John Milton. In the poem, the hand belongs to God, and he uses it to “strike vengeance” on Lucifer, The Devil.

Peaky Blinder showrunner, Stephen Knight, said he chose the song because he believed it suited the character’s best.

Speaking to the New York Post, he explained: “The lyrics conjure up our industrial landscape and the ‘tall handsome man’ could, of course, be Tommy Shelby.

“Over the series we’ve played with what the ‘Red Right Hand’ could be.

“The words have played over communists shaking hands, and over the reveal that Sam Neill’s Chester Campbell has connections to the fighters from Ulster.”

We wonder if it will represent anything in the final series?
