Actress Clara Rugaard believes her new Sky Original series The Rising will be empowering for people to see a victim who ‘takes back control’.
The eight-part drama series will be the first project to be made entirely in-house at Sky studios and follows the story of Neve Kelly (Clara Rugaard), who returns home one morning to find that she has been reported missing.
After some confusing encounters with her family, Neve realises she is actually dead.
It soon becomes apparent she was murdered by someone she knows, so Neve makes it her mission to uncover the killer and get justice by using her supernatural abilities to go places that the Police can’t.
Speaking exclusively to virginradio.co.uk, Clara said: "It's amazing that, you know, it's such a unique concept. Having a murder mystery, sort of in the eyes of the victim, it subverts genre in that way by empowering the investigator who is a young woman.
"That is just amazing to watch."

She added: “I think that's a really special thing about the show. Young women often get portrayed as the victim who is helpless and need a hero to save them, but the hero is the victim, which is beautiful. I love that about show. It's very powerful message."
Neve is certainly a strong character as she darts about on her motorbike dressed in colourful outfits, like a supernatural superhero.
When asked what she thought about Neve when she first read the script, Clara said: "I mean, it was brilliant. She's just undoubtedly so much cooler than than I am.
"I think also when reading her I noticed she's such a fleshed out character already and again, so empowered and furious and determined to to right the injustice. I just really wanted to be able to convince people that I could do that."
Clara is probably best known for previously starring in the 2019 Netflix original I Am Mother, which is a sci-fi thriller about a teenage girl who is raised by a robot designed to repopulate the earth.
The Rising is available to watch on Sky Max and NOW on 22 April.
