Halftime will give fans an intimate look at the life and career of Jennifer Lopez.
The singer has teamed up with Netflix to make a documentary about her long and impressive career in the media industry, focusing on pinpoints in her life such as her halftime show in 2020, her relationship with Ben Affleck and missing out on an Oscar nomination.
In the trailer for the upcoming documentary, fans get a glimpse of J-Lo’s work ethic, down-to-earth nature and love for her family.
Halftime will premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival 2022 on 8 June and will then be made available on Netflix on 14 June.
The festival’s synopsis for the documentary reads: "Halftime serves as the kickoff to the second half of Lopez’s life, as she lays bare her evolution as a Latina, a mother, and an artist, taking agency in her career and using her voice for a greater purpose.”
One of the main focuses of the documentary is Lopez opening up about the scrutiny she faced as a young woman in the music and film industry after being labelled a “diva” or “serial bride”.
The singer admits: “I really believed what they said.”
She goes on to talk about the struggles she faced with her self-confidence as a result of the constant media attention and criticism.
She added: “It was hard. I just had very low self-esteem. I had to really figure out who I was, and believe in that, and not believe anything else.”
Her fiancé, Ben Affleck, also plays a big part in the documentary and in the trailer, he recalls this point in Lopez’s career.
In one scene, we also see the singer in tears after discovering she hasn’t been nominated for an Oscar for her lead role in Hustlers in 2019, despite receiving praise and nominations at the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards.
Despite that, she affirms at the end: “I do this, not for an award. No, I do this to connect with people and make them feel things, because I want to feel something.”
