Congrats are in order for much-loved weathercaster Carol Kirkwood.

The presenter revealed the exciting news that she is newly engaged while doing the weather on BBC Breakfast this morning (Monday 23rd May).

Carol offered a small glimpse at her engagement ring, and shared that her and her new fiance were “thrilled” with the exciting news.

While live at the Chelsea Flower Show, BBC Breakfast hosts Jon Kay and Sally Nugent couldn’t help but ask Carol about the glittering bauble on her ring finger.

When quizzed about the news, Carol replied: “Yes I got engaged, we got engaged when we were on holiday so it's lovely news and we're both thrilled.

On how it happened, Carol divulged: “We went out for a picnic, I had absolutely no idea. The weather was glorious. We were sitting chatting, and then my other half was a wee bit nervous for some reason which I didn’t know, he was fumbling in his pocket, and then out came a ring. It was lovely, it was quite romantic!”

While the identity of her fiance is currently underwraps, Carol’s Breakfast colleagues, past and present, shared their delight at the news via social media.

Dan Walker tweeted: “Carol Kirkwood is the best of us.  Delighted she has found someone who can handle her headlock hugs. Congratulations Carol. If you get married live on #BBCBreakfast can I come back for a one off?

Fellow weathercaster Matt Taylor commented: “I’m already breaking in my pageboy outfit. Huge congratulations to my @carolkirkwood,” while host Jon shared: “The most wonderful news!”

Speaking of former Breakfast host Dan, the Strictly Come Dancing alum recently revealed he is still a part of the competition's WhatsApp group, and it's even named after him!

Presenter Dan impressed in the hit dancing show, reaching the quarter-final, and he has told fans that he and the other celebs from his series have stayed in touch since Eastenders star Rose Ayling-Ellis took out the title in December.

During an Instagram Q&A, the broadcaster was asked: "Do you still chat with the @bbcstrictly class of 2021?"

Not only did Dan confirm that the other members of the competition still talk, but he revealed details of the WhatsApp chat, in the form of a screengrab, showing that it’s hilariously called Dan’s Strictly Gossip.

He captioned the picture with the words: “Yes, this is the name of our WhatsApp group.”

Dan also explained that the group’s name was created by Dragons' Den star Sara Davies, and that the group picture is of fellow contestant Judi Love. “It was named by @saradaviescc and the picture’s of the amazing @1judilove getting papped!” he said.
