Disney reveals first look at stars in new Pinocchio live-action trailer

Disney+ has released the first teaser trailer for the new live-action remake of Pinocchio, giving us a glimpse of Tom Hanks and Cynthia Erivo in their starring roles.

The trailer, which also includes a reimagined version of When You Wish Upon a Star, gives viewers a glimpse of Hanks as the wood-carver Geppetto as he lovingly carves his wooden puppet, Pinocchio, before going to bed and wishing upon a star for a son to call his own.

Nixon plays the blue fairy who grants him this wish as she sings the classic tune, and Pinocchio (Benjamin Evan Ainsworth) finally comes to life.

The story is very similar to the original Disney movie of the same name, and follows Ainsworth as the beloved puppet on his quest to become a real boy with the help of his magical friend Jiminy Cricket- played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Making up the rest of the cast will be Keegan-Michael Key as John, Lorraine Bracco as Sofia the Seagull and Beauty and the Beast actor Luke Evans will be appearing as the Coachman.

The trailer also confirmed that the remake will be airing exclusively on Disney+ on 8 September.

The new Pinocchio adaptation has been a long time coming, with the talks of the live-action remake first taking place in 2018, with Sam Mendes tipped to direct.

Instead, Forrest Gump director Robert Zemeckis will be at the helm, reuniting with Hanks for the first time since 2007’s Polar Express.

Previously, Disney released a first-look image of the actor as Geppetto on their Twitter, sparking excited reactions from fans.

Pinocchio will premiere on Disney+ on 8 September 2022.
