A former Neighbours star has joined the Grey’s Anatomy cast for the upcoming 19th season of the hit show.

Adelaide Kane first appeared on Neighbours back in 2007 where she played the rebellious teenager Lolly Allen for a short stint. Following that, she went on to appear in several other US shows, including Teen Wolf, Secrets of the Mountain and Reign - where she played the lead role of Mary Queen of Scots.

Now, Adelaide is adding Grey’s Anatomy to her CV after getting cast in the ABC medical drama as Sloan’s newest surgical resident Jules Millin.

Jules is a first-year resident whose troubled childhood being raised by drug-addicted parents led her to a career in medicine. Due to her upbringing, Jules is described as someone who is not afraid of breaking the rules and working outside the box to save the lives of her patients.

However, her rule-breaking spirit might just get her in trouble with some of her seniors at Grey Sloan despite her good intentions.

Kane isn’t the only new cast member joining the hit medical drama for season 19, either. Midori Francis, who appeared on the Netflix show Dash & Lily, and Alexis Floyd and Niko Terho, who both starred in Inventing Anna, will also be appearing in the show.

These new additions comes as many fans begin to speculate that Ellen Pompeo, who plays leading character Dr. Meredith Grey, may be bowing out of the series in the next few years.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Pompeo reflected on whether the show could continue without her.

She said: "It has inspired so many generations of healthcare workers, so, I think for the young people, it's a really good piece of content and we're going to try to keep it going for the young people, not necessarily with me, but keep it going beyond me."

Grey’s Anatomy season 19 will premiere in the US on 6 October on ABC. A UK release date has not yet been announced, but seasons 1-17 are streaming on Disney+ with season 18 available on Sky Witness and NOW.
