A student with incurable brain cancer has achieved one of her bucket-list goals after presenting the BBC weather forecast.
Laura Nuttall, from Lancashire, was diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme in 2018 following a routine eye test, where eight tumours were found.
Doctors told the now 22-year-old she would only have 12 months to live, but has since gone on to finish her university course, and tick numerous things off her lengthy bucket-list.
Since her diagnosis, Laura has met Michelle Obama, commanded a Royal Navy ship and had a drink with comedian Peter Kay.
One of Laura’s aspirations was to present the weather on BBC North West Tonight, and she did exactly that after being welcomed onto the programme by weatherman Owain Wyn Evans.
The resident weather expert shared Laura’s experience on his social media, showing her in the make-up chair before her shining moment.
In the clip, Owain walks Laura through the routine to the weather report, and while seeming nervous in her first few takes, she then calmly reads through the pressure chart and the Wednesday weather with ease.
The final cut of the weather forecast then shows Laura being a total pro, expertly reading out the forecast, before signing off with a big smile and telling viewers: “That’s the weather from me.”
Owain then praised Laura for her ‘on brand’ weather t-shirt, and for her weather forecast skills, before host Roger Johnson joked that Owain could “have the day off tomorrow.”
Laura has defied expectations by graduating four years after her diagnosis, originally leaving her university in London to concentrate on treatment and finish off her bucket list.
According to Metro, she underwent treatment in Germany, and it ended up going so well, she started up a new degree in politics, philosophy and economics at The University of Manchester.
Laura is currently an ambassador for The Brain Tumour Charity and has joined the board of Our Brain Bank to help raise money and awareness of different brain conditions.
Well done Laura!
