During a screening of DC League of Super Pets, Hollywood superstar Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson gave a family the surprise of their life.

Dressed in disguise as his character Krypto the Super-Dog, Superman's pet, he gave a family a much-wanted gift.

He told the unsuspecting Hernandez family: 'I have something special for you guys, I'll be right back,' before reappearing with the adorable puppy called Quail.

He had invited the Hernandez family on stage and explained he knew their dream was to have their own dog.

There were huge cheers from the audience when he introduced the tiny pup.

He said: 'I wanna welcome your newest family member. This is Quail, would you like to hold him?' to the delight of family members.

Yes, they very much did.

They all posed for a selfie with the star and their new addition.

He shared the experience on Instagram, writing: 'Best part was finding a loving home with the Hernandez family for my lil' guy, Quail.'

The rescue puppy is from Best Friends Animal Society.

He wrote: "Stuff like this will always be the best part of my job. I LOVE surprising audiences but this #DCSuperPets screening surprise was special."

In the film, Krypto forms a team of shelter animals who were given superpowers to help rescue Superman and the rest of the Justice League.
