Time to follow the Yellow Brick Road once again as a remake of The Wizard Of Oz is currently in the works.
A reimagining of the beloved 1939 movie is being worked out by Black-ish creator Kenya Barris, according to Deadline.
Barris’ production company, Khalabo Ink Society, will be behind the new movie, with all other details currently under wraps.
The director is also behind the upcoming Jonah Hill project You People, also starring Eddie Murphy, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Nia Long.
Fans will have quite the choice when it comes to Wizard of Oz remakes, with another retelling due to hit the big-screen from director Nicole Kassell.
Kasell’s remake was first announced back in 2021, with the filmmaker saying at the time: “I am incredibly honoured to join Temple Hill and New Line in bringing this beloved classic to the screen."
"While 1939 musical is part of my DNA, I am exhilarated and humbled by the responsibility of re-imagining such a legendary tale. The opportunity to examine the original themes — the quest for courage, love, wisdom and home — feels more timely and urgent than ever.”
The 1939 original starred Judy Garland alongside Frank Morgan as Professor Marvel, Ray Bolger as the Scarecrow, Bert Lahr as the Lion, and Jack Haley as the Tin Man.
The musical was critically-acclaimed upon release, and was nominated for six Academy Awards, with Garland winning the Academy Juvenile prize for her tune as Dorothy.
As the film transitioned from black and white to vibrant colour, it marked a shift in the way Hollywood films would be made forever, making it a timeless classic.
Meanwhile, the Tin Man’s oil can went up for auction earlier this year as part of the Artefacts of Hollywood and Music Auction earlier, fetching $250,000 (£207k).
Back in March the auction house listing read "This piece has excellent investment potential, as items from or made for this legendary film almost never surface, including the Tin Man costume which is said to be lost”.
Haley, who played the Tin Man in the original movie, previously owned the prop after it was given to him when filming wrapped and is one of five used in production.
