Amazing and very messy news from here in the UK as a pair of friends have rescued over a million gallons of paint, stopped it all from going to landfill, and found a sustainable business in the process!
Say hello to Cat Hyde and Kate Moree, two friends from Leeds who started out collecting half used tins of paint, then remixing them to make new colours then selling the refilled pots to painters and decorators. The idea started in 2004, it’s so simple and so brilliant and they now have a paint shop called Seagulls, who employ 14 people who sort through the old cans, keep the good stuff, then mix the paint together professionally to make bespoke colours for their customers who get their paint at 75% less than the equivalent can of new paint.
This colourful remixing and recycling has thus far prevented well over a million gallons of paint from being chucked into landfill and instead, making the homes of their customers from Yorkshire and beyond brighter and more CO2 friendly.

Good news from Germany who’ve just launched the world’s first 100% hydrogen powered commuter train :)
I’ve shared with you here the technology behind it and delighted to be able to confirm that it’s happening as we say guten morgen to a local train route in Lower Saxony who have blazed the trail with a ground breaking locomotive that has hydrogen fuel cells in the roof which are combined with oxygen to make clean, green power and while the trains they’re replacing spewed diesel exhaust, nitrogen oxide and particulate pollution into the lungs of everyone on the train and at the stations, the only thing coming out of these exhausts is H20 - water!
These new hydrogen trains, manufactured in France are able to travel 1,000 kilometres, or 621 miles before they need refuelling, perfect for those rural, multi stop lines and able to do their days’ work before refuelling at the end of the day.
