Carole Vorderman is celebrating her 40 years on TV and has joked she is “worn out” from her numerous appearances on different shows.

Her first appearance on the small screen was in November 1982 on Countdown.

The star shared a clip from the programme to her Instagram and explained not only was it her debut, but it was also the first show to air on Channel 4.

In the caption, she wrote: "FORTY YEARS OF ME ON THE TELLY", she wrote: "Happy birthday Channel 4 and Countdown… And happy TV birthday to (me).

"So here’s a short slice of my 40 years. Hosting numerous prime time shows across all of our telly channels. Nearly 10,000 appearances altogether....I’m worn out just thinking about it."

Vorderman added it has been a “wonderful life”.

She continued: "I’ve been lucky and grateful for all the laughing and the opportunities and interesting times with amazing people. There are too many shows to include but you’ll get the idea!

"But above all, and I mean this, the love that people have given me over 40 years and the stories they’ve told me of how some of these shows have influenced them and their families for the good.....Well there is nothing to compare to that. So if you see me out, always tell me your story. It means the world.

"Forever yours, Carol."

Friends and fans of the TV star took to the comments to congratulate her on her milestone with Talk TV’s Vanessa Feltz writing: “Look forward to at least another 40.”

Strictly star and Corrie actor Kym Marsh also said: “Wow!!! I remember watching you xx”

As previously mentioned, Carole first appeared on TV on Countdown in 1982 and was a part of the show for 26 years before handing over the baton to Rachel Riley in 2008.
