The first trailer has landed for the seventh instalment in the Transformers franchise, which introduces the animal-themed Maximals.

Michael Bay may no longer be directing the franchise, but the films keep on coming, and Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts, is helmed by Steven Caple Jr (Creed II).

This movie is inspired by the franchise’s “Beast Wars” storyline, and is set in 1994, not long after the events of 2018 flick Bumblebee. It stars Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback. The former plays ex-military electronics expert Noah, while Fishback plays Elena, a museum’s artefact researcher.

Peter Cullen will once again reprise his voice role as Autobots leader Optimus Prime.

The synopsis promises a “90s globetrotting adventure with the Autobots” and will “introduce a whole new breed of Transformer – the Maximals – to the existing battle on earth between Autobots and Decepticons.”

The Maximals are led by Optimus Primal, who is voiced by Ron Perlman. They essentially turn into animals rather than vehicles.

The new trailer opens with the wording: “For millions of years our world has transformed, but something else has awakened.”

Very ominous!

We then see the imposing looking Optimus Primal, who tells Optimus Prime: “I'm not the one to fear… there is a darkness coming.”

Later in the clip, Optimus Prime says: “Let them come.”

The trailer shows the kind of high-octane action that you would expect (and hope for) from a Transformers movie. Car chases, battles, and the like.

Other voice actors in the new movie include Michelle Yeoh, David Sobolov, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, David Sobolov, and Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage as Terrorcons leader Scourge. Mirage will be voiced by Pete Davidson.

Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts is set to land in cinemas on 9th June, 2023.
