It has been three years since the Gavin & Stacey Christmas Special graced our screens and fans have been calling for more ever since.

The special became the most-watched Christmas TV of the decade, and despite ending on quite a cliffhanger, there has been no word whether the sitcom would be returning.

Now, Joanna Page- who played Stacey on the show- has become the latest star to give us an update on the future of the series.

Speaking on Loose Women yesterday, she admitted she would “love to do another” Gavin & Stacey special but was none the wiser as to whether it would happen.

She said: "I’m just the same as everybody else because they don’t tell us!" she said. "They’ve never told us any more that they’re doing anything, so it’s only when you get a phone call and they say, ‘There’s a special, do you want to do it?’

"They don’t tell us anything and I’ve never ever asked. I’ve never said, ‘Oh Ruth [Jones], do you think you’ll do another one or is there going to be more?'

"I’m just not that sort of person. I’ve always just thought, we'll wait and see, and if there is, there is and if there isn’t, there isn’t."

The actress also added that, like the rest of the Nation, she thought the show had to return following the 2019 Christmas episode.

She said: “I did think, 'There is another one, there’s got to be another one.' We’ve got to find out what Smithy says!"

Page did admit that it may have been “too long” for it to come back now.

She added: "As time’s going by, I’ve started to think, 'Well maybe it’s been too long? Maybe there isn’t going to be another one,' which makes me sad because I’d love to do another one. If they do, I hope they hurry up because we’re all getting old!"

Earlier this year, James Corden hinted the show would be back at some point but co-creator Ruth Jones firmly put those rumours to bed a few months ago.

Speaking to The Independent about her new novel, Love Untold, Ruth simply said: “It’s not coming back.

“I'm sure, at some point, James and I will write something together. But it won't be Gavin & Stacey".

We can keep dreaming!
