The Traitors’ Theo Mayne has opened up about the “tight-knit” relationships between contestants and why he made it so far in the competition.

Following another intense roundtable during Friday (16th December) night’s episode, Theo found himself in the firing line and was banished by his fellow contestants- despite being a Faithful.

What was most shocking was Amanda Lovett ended up nominating Theo to be banished, despite saying she trusted him 100% the night before.

There have been lots of backstabbing, deceit and little white lies throughout the series- not to mention some pretty explosive arguments. However, despite that, Theo has said everyone on the show is very close with one another.

When asked if they have all stayed in contact after the show, Theo exclusively told Virginradio.co.uk: “We actually do. I think we're probably one of the closest casts that ever come out of a reality TV show.

“I don't think you get many reality TV shows that stay so tight-knit afterwards, and that's what's so nice about it. We're all sorts of genuine, diverse people from normal working backgrounds, from every background to be fair. So for me, it's so nice to be a part of a big cast who all stay in contact and have each other's back and not many reality TV shows can say that.”

That said, Theo revealed that having such a close relationship with the others is probably what kept him in the competition for so long.

He added: “My game plan was no game plan. I was just being myself and had a laugh and tried to make people laugh as well. I was just myself and I think a lot of people resonated with me in there. People are always comforted by me and I was quite supportive of everybody in there as well.”

Despite this, Theo still found himself in the firing line during his last roundtable and according to him, he would have rathered been murdered by the Traitors than be banished.

He explained: “It’s horrible because everybody’s just going for you. They’re using every excuse to justify a reason to get rid of you, and with some of the reasons, I just sat there like, ‘That’s not a valid reason’.

“With me what you see is what you get and I’m not beating around the bush. So I just sat down, took it and I didn't have to defend myself to these people as much as I love them. I’m a massive believer in everything happens for a reason and that was my time to go. So I was ready.”

Although he had such good relationships with people and enjoyed being someone they could trust, Theo wouldn’t have hesitated if the opportunity to become a Traitor was presented to him.

He said: “If I was given an ultimatum to join them, I would’ve done it because I’m nosy and I already had good relationships with everybody. It would have been easy for me to carry on being myself.”

Last week, we also spoke to murdered contestant Alex Gray who opened up about how “emotionally draining” the show really was.

The Traitors continues tonight (20th December) at 9pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
