Did you know that there’s a new Alien movie in the works? You’d be forgiven for not realising, as there isn’t a great deal of information available about the project at the moment, but what is known is that Dora star, Isabela Merced, has been added to the cast.

The actor, known for playing the titular character in Dora and the Lost City of Gold, as well as featuring in Transformers: The Last Knight, joins Mare of Easttown’s Cailee Spaeny in signing up for the project, as reported by Deadline

The upcoming Alien movie will be directed by Fede Alvarez, who has previously helmed the likes of Don’t Breathe, Evil Dead and The Girl in the Spider's Web.

Details on the latest in the science-fiction franchise are sketchy at this stage, other than the unsurprising fact that the legendarily terrifying aliens called Xenomorphs will reportedly be in the thick of the action again. There are unverified suggestions online that the movie may be called Alien: Romulus.

Isabela Merced’s other acting credits include 2022’s version of Father of the Bride, Sicario: Day of the Soledado, and Rosaline, which is a comedic reimagining of Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet. Along with the new Alien movie, she will also star in the upcoming Spider-Man film, Madame Web.

As well as playing Erin McMenamin alongside Kate Winslett acclaimed TV drama Mare of Easttown, Cailee Spaeny has also featured in movies such as Pacific Rim Uprising, and The Craft: Legacy.

The new Alien project follows on from a host of other movies. The original classic starring Sigourney Weaver landed in 1979 and spawned the classic tagline, “In space no can hear you scream”.

Sequels, Aliens, Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection followed, and there have been a couple of prequels, in 2012’s Prometheus and Alien: Covenant from 2017.

There have also been two crossover movies, Alien vs. Predator and Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem.
