Couple's barefoot shoe hack divides the internet - 'disgusting'

A couple’s life-style hack to allow them to walk around barefoot while wearing shoes is dividing the internet with its creativity.

Originally posted by American influencer Christi Fritz on TikTok, the video - which shows how she and her husband have taken to removing the soles of their shoes so that they can walk around barefoot in public (in theory) without anyone noticing - has since gone viral on other social media sites as well.

“The age of barefoot walking has begun and I couldn’t be more excited or thankful,” the TikTok star captioned her post.

The video begins with Christi explaining a follower gave the pair the idea of removing their shoe's soles to get around the fact some businesses don't want them walking around their premises barefoot. Admitting cutting off the bottom of all of their $20,000 worth of shoes is “a big commitment,” Christi added she feels it’s worth it “because walking barefoot means the world to us.”

Many on the internet did not react so favourably to Christi and her husband’s idea, however, with several viewers branding the whole practice “disgusting”.

Others were a little more sympathetic to the general idea. “I mean at home/around home ok,” one person penned. “But public streets and stores?!? *weeps*” they added.

“I understand how cool it is to walk barefoot growing up in a huge farm to be connected to nature, but on the asphalt in the city I don’t think it has the same effect,” a separate fan commented on the couple’s TikTok.

“Just thinking about how much human and animal urine and faeces they’re willing walking over,” another person considered, appalled. “They ain’t even touching the earth,” a fourth person pointed out. “Just concrete and sadness!”

Many more couldn’t get over the pair’s willingness to pull apart all their expensive shoes. “Their shoes are worth $20,000? And they cut them up to walk barefoot on concrete?” questioned one person. “Reverse flip flops should be illegal,” another individual joked.
