Are you one of the 500,000 people who took part in Veganuary this year? If so, this is music to your dairy-free ears. A plant-based version of the classic Cadbury's chocolate bar is coming soon.

Taking inspiration from one of the nation's favourite bars, Cadbury’s Dairy Milk, the new treat is flying into Sainsbury’s stores from November costing £2.50.

So how do they do it? According to the master chocolate makers they've substituted milk for almond paste to give it a creamy texture which 'provides a similar taste and texture to milk while adding a hint of nuttiness'.

Approved by The Vegan Society, there will be a smooth chocolate bar made with almonds and a chocolate bar made with almonds and salted caramel.

Louise Stigant, the UK managing director of Cadbury’s owner, Mondelēz International, said: “With 500,000 participants in this year’s Veganuary… the increasing public appetite for varied snacking options and plant-based alternatives has never been more apparent.

"At Mondelēz, evolving consumer demands have long informed our ambition to provide a wide range of products that work for everyone and the new Cadbury Plant Bar range is the latest stop on this journey.”

Ericka Durgahee, a marketing manager at the Vegan Society, said: “As we approach World Vegan Day on 1st November, the Vegan Society is thrilled that anyone who misses Cadbury chocolate as a vegan can now enjoy their favourite delicious chocolate bar without the use of animal products.

“We know how hard Mondelez has worked to bring this bar to life and give more options to everyone. We look forward to trying them when they launch!”

So do we.
