Mr Meow-cury, anyone? A moustached feline has captured the imagination of the internet and gone viral with its iconic Queen looks.

The female cat known as Mostaccioli on social media – aka 'moustaches' in Italian – is a British Shorthair from California who has bagged over 11,000 followers.

Fans have noticed the uncanny (read: uncatty) similarities with Freddie and come up with a string of purr-fect puns including 'Don’t stop me-owww' and 'Freddie Purrcury'.

Along with her Scottish Fold sister Izanami, their profile is run by veterinarian officer worker, Natalie.

The owner is raising money for Cats Of San Bernardino – a non-profit organisation that is “dedicated to saving the lives of cats and kittens in the city of San Bernardino, CA”.

A post on their official website reads: "There is a large feral cat problem in SB and nowhere to get help for them. That’s when we decided to step in and try to help these little guys by at least feeding and hydrating them.”

So far, the caring cat-owner has raised $10,000 (£7,365) in donations thanks to the her feline friends' popularity.

Cat fan Freddie Mercury's partner Jim Hutton, who passed away in 2010, expressed the singer's love of the four-legged friends in a BBC2 documentary previously. He said: “Freddie would constantly fuss over them, and if any of them came to any harm when Freddie was away, heaven help us.

“During the day, the cats had the run of the house and grounds, and at night, one of us would round them up and bring them inside.”
