Did you even know blue lobsters exist? One fisherman has wowed people with an incredible catch, described as a 'one in two million' type of animal.

The rare crustacean – who has now been returned to the ocean – won't be ending up on anyone's plate anytime soon.

Lobster finder, Lars-Johan Larsson, shared the exciting news on Twitter and wrote: "This blue Lobster was caught off the coast of Portland yesterday and returned to the water to continue to grow. Blue lobsters are one in two million."

One Ohio restaurant almost served one up in 2020, but instead of putting it in the boiling pot they named it Clawed and sent it off to a nearby zoo.

Back in the UK, Rochdale restaurant Hare on the Hill also came across the rare blue crustacean in their supplies last year, who they called Larry and sent to the Sea Life centre in Manchester, while a Cornish fisherman caught a blue lobster in his pot last year but threw it back after calling it 'too small'.

One user commented on Twitter: "I was 'today years old' when I discovered blue lobsters."

A second added: "Good for you. Putting him back, How awesome."

A third wowed: "Creatures you don't expect to be blue are always amazing."

Think a blue lobster is the catch of the day? There's a one in 10 million chance of finding an orange-shelled lobster.

Happy hunting.
